Project

Linking sustainable livelihoods and hog deer conservation in Cambodia

Duration
2024 - 2024
Location
Cambodia
Species protected
Hog Deer Axis porcinus

Project description

This project aims to reduce threats to the endangered Hog Deer by promoting wildlife-friendly rice production systems, such as Ibis Rice or Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) methods, in the Prek Prasob Wildlife Sanctuary (PPWS). The initiative seeks to address habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict by engaging 300 farmers in six villages through conservation agreements that link better market access with biodiversity protection. These agreements are designed to both increase household income and prevent poaching, habitat conversion, and pesticide use.
