Buzzing Futures — Youth advocacy and communication for pollinators (Austria & France)
Project description
Pollinators are in decline across Europe, yet this issue is often not effectively communicated or translated into action. Buzzing Futures addresses this gap by empowering young people to become advocates for pollinator conservation and to influence local environmental policy.
The project brings together participants from France, Austria and beyond through a structured programme that combines training, collaboration and creative expression. It begins with an in-person workshop where participants develop skills in advocacy, science communication and action planning, working alongside experts and policymakers.
Threats
Habitat loss & degradation
Impact of agricultural practices
Building on this, participants continue their work through a digital community, applying systems thinking to better understand pollinator decline and implementing local initiatives such as habitat restoration and policy engagement. The project concludes with a creative showcase, presenting youth-led actions and outputs to a wider audience and encouraging broader dialogue on pollinator conservation.
This project is implemented by Biodiversity Action Europe.
Project objectives
The project aims to empower young people to become effective advocates for pollinator conservation by equipping them with knowledge, tools and practical skills in advocacy and communication. It seeks to strengthen understanding of pollinator decline as a complex, systemic issue and to support the development of locally relevant actions.
The project also aims to increase the visibility of youth-led initiatives and promote creative approaches to environmental communication, fostering wider engagement with pollinator conservation.
