The project aims to improve knowledge of Sumatran tiger and prey populations through robust monitoring and better population data. It will strengthen anti-poaching efforts and habitat protection to reduce threats to tigers, their prey and the wider ecosystem. At the same time, the project will expand community-based ecotourism, creating commercially viable and sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities living in and around the reserve.
Project activities
- Conduct community-based SMART patrols to monitor wildlife, detect threats and strengthen protection across the reserve.
- Carry out camera-trap surveys to improve understanding of Sumatran tiger and prey populations and support evidence-based conservation.
- Strengthen anti-poaching and habitat protection measures in key areas for tigers and their prey.
- Develop and expand community-based ecotourism as a sustainable source of income for local communities.
- Build local capacity to manage and promote ecotourism initiatives and strengthen their long-term commercial viability.
