Exploring the populations of a native and threatened bee species on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos (Greece)
Project description
This project aims to improve knowledge of the endangered bee species Nomioides chalybeatus in Greece. Despite its conservation importance, information on its distribution, ecology and threats remains limited.
Through field research, the project will investigate population status, behavioural ecology and potential risks affecting the species. The results will provide a stronger scientific basis for conservation and support future reassessment of its conservation status.
The project also contributes to capacity building by engaging young researchers and strengthening collaboration among pollination experts and taxonomists in Greece.
Threats
Climate change
Habitat loss & degradation
Impact of agricultural practices
Project objectives
The project aims to locate populations of Nomioides chalybeatus and improve understanding of its ecology and threats. It seeks to generate updated data on the species’ distribution and conservation status.
The project also aims to disseminate findings to the scientific community and raise public awareness about pollinator conservation.
Project activities
- Collaborate with academic partners: Work with research institutions to support knowledge exchange.
- Deliver training and workshops: Organise seminars and workshops with partner organisations in Greece.
- Disseminate knowledge and raise awareness: Share findings with scientific and public audience.
