Celebrate the successes of IUCN’s SOS African Wildlife initiative with us

This final event, part of the knowledge-sharing process marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to halt the decline of Africa’s large carnivores and strengthen coexistence with local communities offers a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and look ahead. It will showcase the initiative’s most significant impacts while opening a space for dialogue about what we’ve learned and how these lessons can shape the future of species conservation investments and strategies in Africa.
Celebrating successes and reflecting on lessons from IUCN’s SOS African Wildlife Initiative
Date: Wednesday, 14 May 2025
Time: 15:00–18:30 CEST
Participants will gain valuable insights into how targeted grant-making has helped safeguard species and ecosystems, fostered co-existence between people and wildlife, and strengthened local conservation capacities. You’ll hear directly from grantees through compelling testimonial videos and compelling case studies from the conservation frontline that bring their stories and innovations to life. The session will also present recommendations to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of future conservation investments.
Above all, this event is a celebration and a chance to recognise the collective efforts of our grantees, partners, donors, and supporters. Together, we’ve made measurable progress in conservation, and together, we will shape what comes next!
Since its launch in 2017, IUCN’s SOS African Wildlife initiative has empowered civil society organisations across the continent to protect some of Africa’s most iconic and threatened species, halting the decline of large carnivores, reducing human-wildlife conflict, and restoring critical habitats.
