People
We involve local people in conservation. By supporting Indigenous Peoples and local communities to reduce the dependency on natural resources and develop sustainable livelihoods and practices, we empower nature’s stewards to coexist with wildlife.
1. Engaging Indigenous Peoples and local communities in conservation
We place Indigenous Peoples and local communities at the heart of conservation by supporting inclusive, rights-based and participatory approaches. Our projects recognise traditional knowledge, strengthen community governance and promote equitable partnerships, ensuring that those who live closest to biodiversity play a central role in its protection and benefit fairly from conservation outcomes.
2. Strengthening local capacity for conservation leadership
We build the leadership, technical and organisational capacity of local actors to drive lasting conservation change. Through training, mentoring, institutional strengthening and youth engagement, our projects empower individuals and organisations to lead conservation efforts, influence decision-making and sustain impact beyond the lifetime of individual grants.
3. Advancing sustainable livelihoods and natural resource management
We support sustainable livelihood opportunities and improved natural resource management that reduce pressure on ecosystems while improving well-being. By promoting nature-based enterprises, sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry, and community-led resource governance, our projects align biodiversity conservation with economic resilience and food security.
4. Promoting human-wildlife coexistence
We work with communities, authorities and partners to prevent and reduce conflict between people and wildlife. Through early warning systems, conflict-mitigation measures, compensation schemes and community dialogue, our projects protect both livelihoods and wildlife, fostering tolerance and long-term coexistence in shared landscapes.
5. Advancing conservation awareness and environmental education
We raise awareness, inspire stewardship and build a culture of conservation through education and outreach. Our projects engage schools, youth groups, community leaders and the wider public, strengthening environmental literacy and encouraging behaviours that support biodiversity conservation across generations.
