Project

Generation Alpha: Guardians of the wild bees (Bulgaria)

Duration
2026 - 2027
Location
Bulgaria

Project description

This project aims to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge on wild bees and a young audience in Bulgaria. Built around the idea “know, care, preserve”, it translates complex information on wild bee diversity, biology and behaviour into engaging, accessible content for children.

Using an innovative approach based on media pedagogy, the project combines education with digital tools and creative formats. It will develop materials in children’s native language and provide simple, practical actions they can take to support wild bees in their daily lives.

Threats

Habitat loss & degradation

Impact of agricultural practices

Reduced genetic diversity

By connecting learning with interactive experiences and hands-on activities, the project encourages young people to understand, appreciate and actively contribute to pollinator conservation.

Project objectives

The project aims to engage young audiences—particularly Generation Alpha—by presenting scientific knowledge on wild bees in accessible, digital and interactive formats. It seeks to foster environmental awareness and long-term attitudes towards pollinator conservation by combining education with media literacy and participatory learning.

The project also aims to provide practical tools and actions that empower children to contribute directly to wild bee conservation in their everyday environments.

Finally, it aims to create and disseminate educational resources widely through digital platforms, schools and community activities, strengthening peer-to-peer learning and engagement.

Project activities

  • Develop educational media tools: Create an illustrated children’s book and a dedicated educational website on wild bees.
  • Deliver interactive learning activities: Organise workshops and events, including hands-on activities such as building bee hotels and planting for pollinators.
  • Engage young audiences through digital platforms: Promote content through school portals, social media and online competitions.
  • Encourage peer-to-peer engagement: Support youth participation through initiatives such as “Bee Ambassadors” sharing knowledge and content.
This project is part of the European Fund for Youth Action on Pollinators.
